1Pick a base letter — a Consonant (व्यञ्जन), Conjunct (संयुक्त), or Vowel (स्वर) from the grids below. It lights up purple.
2Optionally apply a Modifier — e.g. tap a vowel matra (ा, ि...) to combine with the consonant. Or use Halanta (्) to make a half-letter like म्, or Halanta+र to make a cluster like क्र. A matra and Halanta/ra-cluster can now be combined together, e.g. प्र + ी matra → प्री. You can also add anuswara (ं), chandrabindu (ँ), visarga (ः), rikaar (ृ), or ref (र्) on top.
3The Preview bar shows your syllable taking shape. Tap Add syllable + when it looks right.
